1. Origin of Golf
Golf originated in Scotland in the 15th Century. The first known mention of the game came in 1457, when King James II of Scotland banned it because he believed it distracted from practicing archery which was an important military defence at the time
2. Golf on the Moon
In 1971, Astronaut Alan Shepard became the first person to hit a golf ball on the moon. He used a modified six-iron club and, due to the moon’s low gravity, the ball travelled further than anything hit on Earth.
3. Golf’s Olympic History
Golf was part of the Olympic Games in 1900 and 1904 but was dropped for over a century. It made its comeback in 2016, featuring both men’s and women’s 72-hole events.
